Moving towards GCC4
GCC 4 is imported into NetBSD-current for some time now,
Allen Briggs has posted
a heads-up note requesting testers
and
Juan RP has added a note on how to enable GCC4
for testing.
In the process,
GCC 2.95.x was removed, which left
the VAX port with support for static libraries only
until GCC4 is ready on the VAX port,
as Matt Green let us know.
One of the problems involved in the static-lib only case was that the
shared-lib support for NetBSD in GCC2 never made it back to the FSF and
wasn't ported to GCC3 either. Work is under way to to bring the
support to GCC4 - and hopefully upstream to the FSF.
