Microsoft Ends Services for Unix Product
As seen on Slashdot
(see the discussion, if you care :),
``Microsoft has decided against enhancing its Services for Unix (SFU) product and will not release any new versions of it going forward, according to company officials.
Microsoft will continue to support SFU 3.5 until 2011, and to offer extended support for the product until 2014, however.''
Apparently they want to integrate the functionality more tightly
into the base operating system, which makes sense to me. And IIRC
they've been shipping _some_ POSIX layer for quite some time, but
I guess it was just not usable without userland tools. What this
all means for the "Interix" support in pkgsrc remains to be seen.
