Protecting harddisk security
Matthias Drochner has implemented a 'security' command for
atactl(8) to query and esp. freeze the status of modern harddisk's
security extensions. This prevents evil intruders (and potential viruses,
but that's not a real problem in NetBSD today :-) from scrambling the
harddisk password and thus making the harddisk unusable. See
this
slashdot article on how virus writers may abuse
this security feature that many(?) modern harddisks have on other,
non-NetBSD, platforms.
