[20050108] Random stuff
I finally have my 2.0/i386+pkgsrc-2004Q4 pkgsrc bulk build going again, after I've managed to identify the bug hanging it, and Christos Zoulas sending me a patch (see PR i28875). I've seen another crash on my home machine for quote some time now, and I managed to send-pr that too ().

Following up a posting by Mike Cheponis on netbsd-advocacy@, I've send mail to Linux godfather Linus Torvalds today to update his understanding of what NetBSD is (and what it is probably not). See my summary of my mail and his reply.

Speaking of advocacy... that benchmark that I've posted for Gregory McGarry spread around somewhat, and it's been looked at by >16000 people after it was linked on sites like slashdot and newsforge. I've also posted to some FreeBSD lists after I thought people there would want to know too. Some were, and some of the posted interesting replies, while other wrote really ill-tempered mails in response, comparing methods used to Microsoft and (worse :-) OpenBSD. I'll forward all the feedback to Gregory, and would appreciate it if people would do so themselves in the future. No use shooting the messenger. 8-)

During the past few days, a few people have bounced around a number of interesting patches. Those of you curious to play with things can find patches for TCP/SACK, TCP/Westwood+, improved libpthread and first part (audio converter pipeline) of the new audio framework. If someone feels bored beyond that, two possible projects for hacking have been suggested to me: 1) extending the user add dialogue of sushi(8) to allow setting a password, and 2) in sysinst, at the end allow adding a user account (using "sushi adduser"). Please send-pr your patches or coordinate implementation on tech-userlevel@.
